Beloved of God:
Affinity is a congregation that takes seminary education seriously for those serving in ministry. The McCreary Center for African American Religious Studies, founded and lead by Dr. William Myers, a friend and frequent preacher to Affinity Missionary Baptist Church, has been a key partner in our efforts to ensure that our congregation is served by ministers who are fully equipped for their roles. The McCreary Center, housed right here in Cleveland, is a nationally celebrated academic program that uniquely prepares ministers to serve congregations within the African American community – not only with the Biblical and theological tools they will need, but also with a wide range of sociological, historical and cultural tools critical to serving within the African American context.
To date, no less than two of our Associate Pastors and four of our Associate Ministers have received, or are currently working toward, their seminary degrees from Ashland Theological Seminary through the McCreary Center for African American Church Studies. I have personally taken courses at the McCreary Center to enhance my seminary training and our Founding Pastor, James McJunkin Senior, received his seminary education at Ashland Theological Seminary through the McCreary Center for African American Religious Studies.
The McCreary Center has been training ministers in Cleveland since 1989, nearly 30 years! On Thursday, July 12th, at 6:30 PM, the African American Church Community of Greater Cleveland is coming together for a long overdue celebration and fundraiser for this center of educational excellence that has enriched our community for so many years. Please join me, our Associate Ministers and our Social Justice Ministry, as we join with the pastors and churches of Greater Cleveland this coming Thursday at the New Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1508 E. 71st Street, to ensure that the work of the McCreary center will continue in Cleveland for generationto come.
In Him,  Pastor Maxwell
